Amir-Abdollahian:

‘Al-Jubeir arrogantly assumed victory in Yemen’

TEHRAN, Aug. 08 (MNA) – Iranian diplomat Amir-Abdollahian said he had told Saudi FM during a meeting that invading Yemen was Saudi’s new strategic mistake but al-Jubeir had arrogantly talked about victory.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, former deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affair and incumbent Parliament's General Director for International Affairs, said the Saudi regime was responsible for the failure in political talks and the continued slaughter of Yemeni people, adding “Saudis by encouraging Mansur Hadi to resign, began the policy of ‘Stateless Yemen’ and today, in continuation of their many mistakes, they have put on agenda the policy of waging and escalating civil war in Yemen.”

He referred to one of his meetings with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, saying “during the meeting, I explicitly told him that the military aggression in Yemen is the new strategic mistake of Riyadh and its consequences will further escalate insecurity in Saudi Arabia and the region, but he arrogantly told me that they would achieve victory in Yemen.”

“The Yemeni people stood up against the aggression with courage and made a new point in history,” he said. “This is while Saudi Arabia has been trapped in a swamp and is unable to save itself as the regime continues its inefficient security and military approaches,” he stressed.

Amir-Abdollahian further highlighted political solution as the only feasible means for settling the problems in Yemen, adding “the future of this country belongs to all groups, parties and the people of Yemen, yet Saudi Arabia does not allow the UN to perform its duties toward the basic rights of Yemeni people.”

The US also supports Saudi Arabia and keeps silent, he added.
